The Arctic is at the very forefront of global environmental changes, serving as a barometer for the future of humanity. Transformations in the Arctic exert profound impacts on the global climate, marine ecosystems, and indeed every aspect of our lives. Once seen as remote and distant, the Arctic has now become a region that demands the wisdom and collective efforts of the international community for its preservation.

 

Born out of this shared understanding was the Arctic Partnership Week (APW), which marks its 10th anniversary this year. Over the past decade, the Republic of Korea, as an Observer State to the Arctic Council, has worked closely with Arctic nations in areas such as scientific research, maritime affairs, fisheries, and governance – exploring pathways toward a sustainable future for the region. Through these endeavors, the APW has evolved into a key platform for dialogue and cooperation, bringing together domestic and international stakeholders to reaffirm the Arctic’s enduring importance and to seek practical solutions for its future.

 

Given the accelerating pace of environmental change in the Arctic, this is a pivotal juncture to present a renewed vision and direction for the sake of a peaceful and sustainable future. The 2025 APW, commemorating its 10th anniversary, will serve as a new point of departure on that journey. Building upon the trust and partnership we have cultivated together, Korea looks forward to forging tangible cooperation that will benefit future generations.

 

Under the theme “A Decade of Cooperation: Co-navigating a Sustainable Arctic Future,” the APW will bring together leading experts, policymakers, industry representatives, and civil society from around the world for focused dialogue and exchange. Korea warmly invites you to be part of this shared commitment, looking back on the past decade’s achievement and charting together the course for the decade ahead.
